PES University, Bengaluru, lifts coveted National trophy at Tata Crucible Campus Quiz 2018

NIT Kurukshetra declared International winners

Mumbai: The 14th edition of Tata Crucible Campus Quiz, India’s largest and highest-rated business quiz, successfully concluded the national and international finals in Mumbai on April 14, 2018. Akhil Siddharth and Preetham Upadhya from PES University, Bengaluru, won the national trophy, whereas the runners-up of the national finals, Sushant Adlakha and Vipraw Srivastava from NIT Kurukshetra won the International finals.

The national and international winners were felicitated by chief guest R Gopalakrishnan, former director, Tata Sons. The national champions were awarded the coveted Tata Crucible Campus Quiz 2018 trophy and a prize money of Rs. 5,00,000/- (subject to applicable tax deductions).

Commenting at the grand-finale of 14th edition of Tata Crucible Campus Quiz, Mr Gopalakrishnan, said, “14 years ago we started this quiz as it resonated very well with the group’s ethos of nurturing and cultivating young talent. At that point, we could have never thought that the quiz would run for such a long time and become a movement of its kind, celebrating knowledge across India as also select nations.

  • Indian Edition saw participation of 7500+ teams from 38 cities
  • Singapore and Dubai edition saw participation of 82 and 65 teams respectively
  • The theme of the quiz this year was 150 years of business

Commemorating the theme of ‘150 years of business to mark the 150th year of the Tata group’, this year’s quiz format comprised five segments - Conquering Unchartered Terrains, Walk the Talk, Tata@150, Play the Game Beyond the Prize and One World.

Giri Balasubramaniam, aka ‘Pickbrain’ quizzed the participants on a host of questions, testing their ability to think analytically, creatively and quickly. PES University, Bengaluru, the national winning team clinched the trophy by giving razor-sharp answers with alacrity. To the question, “IDRBT is the IT arm of which entity in India?”, they came up with the answer “Reserve Bank of India” in fraction of a second. The international finals winners NIT Kurukshetra, scored a confident win by answering questions such as “What came from the ‘water’ of this place, invented by a certain Giovanni Maria Farina”? The answer to which is an every-day use commodity, Eau de Cologne.

Expressing their happiness, the national final winners Akhil Siddharth and Preetham Upadhya from PES University, Bengaluru said, “Tata Crucible Campus Quiz has been an incredible and exciting experience for us. We had not expected to win the national finals because we had not excelled the zonal round, but we pulled it off well. However, in the international finals, we tried our best but think that the winning team was much better and they took great risks.”

Elated on winning the international title Sushant Adlakha and Vipraw Srivastava from NIT Kurukshetra said, “It was out first attempt at Tata Crucible Campus Quiz and it has been an amazing experience. We are elated to win the international finals in the first go. We had prepared a lot for the past two years and are very happy with the fruitful results. We will definitely come back next year and aim to win the national finals as well.”

The teams competing for the finals of the India edition consisted of two teams each from five zones.

Runner-up: Rajenki Das and Soham Banerjee from Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Patiala
Kolkata Zone Winner: Saqib Javed and Siddharth Majumdar from Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Allahabad
Runner-up: Suvam Palo and Ankit Jena from College of Engineering & Technology, Bhubaneswar
Hyderabad Zone Winner: Divij Santosh and Leo Drancis from India Institute of Management (IIM), Indore
Runner-up: Akhil Siddharth and Preetham Upadhya from PES University, Bengaluru
Chennai Zone Winner: Roopesh VS and F. M. Sharad Chandar from Coimbatore Institute of Technology, Coimbatore
Runner-up: T. Franklin Britto and I. Mohamed Rizwan from Madurai Medical College
Mumbai Zone Winner: Garaga Dehit and Digant Bakari from G.H. Patel College of Engineering and Technology (GCET), Anand
Runner-up: Sahil Haresh Ranchandani and Harsh Hegde from National Institute of Technology, Goa

 

In addition to the India edition, Tata Crucible had its 2nd edition in Dubai, besides its 11th edition in Singapore.

Tata Crucible Campus Quiz covered 38 cities across the nation, with over 7,500 teams participating in the regional rounds this year. The quiz has gained immense popularity among students from Metros, Tier 2 and 3 cities across India.
