Connected cities of the future
Tata Consulting Engineers is partnering the Government of India to build technology-driven cities through its Smart Cities Mission
Every day, 187,000 people move to a city looking for a job, an opportunity and a better life. By 2050, the world’s population will reach 10 billion, and 70% of the planet’s inhabitants will be born, live and work in cities. Cities of the future have to develop complex, interconnected infrastructure that needs to cater to a diverse range of users.
Technological innovation is essential for cities to become smarter. But this means different things in different locations. But, globally, the biggest gains may be made when innovation aligns itself with the wider unmet social needs of various city populations, satisfying their desires for security, employment opportunities or simply happiness.
Tata Consulting Engineers (TCE) is partnering the Government of India to implement its Smart Cities Mission across Indian cities. TCE acts as facilitator and project manager for the Mission’s programmes such as setting up solar trees to generate power, undergrounding of utility cables, rainwater harvesting and providing integrated command and control centres.
